2005 - 1 Surf Check January

The winds were very light north this morning on the SE corner. I seen a couple out at RI, one out at Roach and a couple out in the A&D area. All looked ok but nothing looked good enough to get me in the water. I never surf A&D or the Roach. RI was close and should be better when the swell starts wrapping in more later. If I were feeling better I'd head up the Eastside.

got an appt in town 12:45, prolly finish about 1:30 or 2. if I get enough work done in the morning maybe I'll bring my stick. NW winds still forecast for tomorrow, if got something surfable, a little DH action would be better than nothing, maybe?

or wait for NNE winds by Wednesday or trades by thursday, in the country? :?

The evening after double sessioning these waves I laid down on my couch completly exhausted, then went over the waves I rode in my head for like 45 minutes.....Still stoked from that day

Good luck to all in your search for surf tommorow...I will probaly work all day, maybe chance the east side in the evening if it looks promising

I couldn't stand the thought of missing epic Eastside so I crawled out of bed and went hunting. Winds in Kaaawa and Pualuu were funky but got better further north. The swell was too west and missing most spots but some looked near DOH. Went as far as G.I. which was manini but there was bigger stuff breaking outside. Didn't even check 7H, and turned around and checked R.I. which was half the size it was in the morning. 25 people out at the Roach, even the wife said it looked too small to surf. I missed some surf but nothing too epic.

Postby Lgreenz » Tue Jan 04, 2005 12:56 pm

Dont bother heading to the DH area surf was super small and looking extremly soft.
Almost chankd um and headed east, but my friend called and said
the swell was running parrallel to the coast and just looking OK.

Kelly thanks for the confirmation, glad I didn't miss nuttin.

I wouldn't say you missed nothing. If I were feeling better and I didn't have my wife with me I may have tried going out at some outer reef in Hauula. CYO's was throwing some barrels but everyone out there seemed to be avoiding them. I didn't even check 7th puka, I think I was afraid it would be going off. I heard it was pretty wild. Then there's the Marine Base, could be North Beach was all time. SJ9 will probably come up with some great looking shots of somewhere. I still can't believe I totally missed that bump on New Years day.
BTW, I gave R.I. a good long look this morning. Two sb'rs and 1 lb'r out at dawn. Shoulder high with light on-shore winds. The Roach had 10 cars waiting before there was even any color in the sky. I heard that a bunch of cars got broke into at the Puu this morning.

Oh I wasn't avoiding them. It was good, and the 15 or so clueless dinks out there weren't even getting the way, sitting in the channel like they were. It's always like that out there. I was basically surfing it alone. Got some nice instense deep ones. Surfed over 3 hours and came in very satisfied.

You missed it LG. I don't know who your source is, but apparently doesn't know what he's looking at. I KNOW the eastside like I know Lighthouse, and today was pretty damn good out there.

Got itchy for a surf so I chanced the easside. 7th looked like crap. GI was the most perfect.........1 occ 1.5 foot you've ever seen. Was low on time so I went out there for a quicky. Perfect shape, but only waist-shoulder high max. actually got a perfect little cylinder, but tiny!

CYOs- sounded like it was sick....

Oh la

Postby HMARK » Tue Jan 04, 2005 8:43 pm

Went out at FP this mid-day. Not bad at all. Clean. Hauoli Reeves on a LB and crew. Pegging up proper on the corner Pohaku's way. Some good ones. Had some boys out at I's and AD's .. smaller but less crowded. Sooooooper clean at 'round 10 'ish.

Makani's new stick is finding her sweet spot , at least trying to on this old fut.

God Bless, it was cold to the bone when I finaly came in. N winds, and chillin the air. warm bocha felt great.
