RIP Jeremiah. I didn't know this guy, but a lot of my coworkers and friends did. these are some words from a mutual friend... so sad.

" He was born and raised in Hawaii, so he was an experienced surfer, spearfisherman, overall
waterman, and water polo player (organizing weekly games at Punahou pool
for the last 2 years). If it can happen to him, it truly can happen to
anyone. He leaves behind a 2-yr old daughter and a wife who is pregnant.

This tragedy is yet another reminder to be extremely safety-conscious in
our work and recreational activities, especially involving freediving or
any ocean activity. Being constantly vigilant of not only our own
safety, but that of our buddy/friend/coworker, may save a life. "

did he hit his head or something? unconscious after 30 sec? something else must have happened because 30 sec is not a whole lot unless you are getting thrown around, maybe the pressure ruptured something is his brain...strange.

Human bodies are capable of amazing things, but they can also be very fragile under the wrong circumstances. Very sorry for your loss.

total bummer. i knew him pretty good as he was part of what i refer to as the "core" hilo crew when i first moved here in '91. i have been on more than a few surf missions with him over the years and i was always glad to bump into him over the years. i can attest that he was definitely an experienced watermen and a hell of a surfer, so it wasn't a lack of knowledge that eluded him. given the fact that jay moriarty, possibly mark foo and hose angel, and numerous other close calls from people i know that have had underwater blackouts...all i can say is this shit is for real and i'm done deep free diving alone.
that spot off the h-3 rocks!!!
