Crazy camera, built in pressure gauge and all. Think I'm gonna get this one. Kelly let me know when you see it in Costco.

I was reading the review there, looks like the shutter lag would suck out for precision-timed surf shots : "Shutter Speed
The Olympus 770’s shutter speeds range from 1/1000-1/2 second, or up to 4 seconds in the Night Scene mode. This is after a significant shutter lag between ¼-1/2 second. "

Still researching

When reviewers tell you the shutter lag is that long what they are really measuring is auto focus lag which will vary greatly with subject, light level and other factors. http://www.steves-digicams.com/ has the shutter lag for the 720sw (I assume the 770sw will be about the same) at 1/10 sec with pre focus and 3/10 with focus. I also figure that if I get this camera I'd mostly shoot in high speed mode, 3.8 fps @ 3-megapixel.

I guess Costco got a deal with Olympus to be the only dealer for the 725sw in America, I doubt they'll get the 770sw any time soon.

I think he uses a Canon S80 with a housing when he's in photographer mode, I'm not sure what he's using when he's in surfer mode, maybe still the Sony DSC-U60?[/quote]

photographer mode: Canon PowerShot S80
surfer mode: Pentax Optio W20

I have not had good results with the W20. Thought it broke, but I recently found out that I put the battery back in the wrong way. Doh! Can't get the exposure right, focus is slow, water beads. Sigh.

Costco just junked their unlimited return policy and made it 90 days. News story. I guess I won't be getting the 725sw.

Pentax is coming out with the Optio W30 next month, waterproof to 10' for 2 hours up from 5' for 30 minutes for the W20. dpreview.com
