Pls. pardon very low res, and some above. Will add more better resolution next, then try to meet my work deadline!

These are RI by me. Might be a duplicate from earlier, will check and delete if so. These are from 1999, and it is the only set I have from before 2004, when I got the Canon PowerShot A60 (getting probably FujiFilm w/10X optical zoom, 6 megapixal, etc. for this winter and beyond, forget the exact model).

Still updating my Web site...here's one (third photo) from the erstwhile Red Bull winter contests in New England/NY/NJ. Maybe I should say property of Red Bull, but they don't even have the contest anymore, so... This Maine.

Zev Gartner (sp?), I believe from Hawaii but going to grad school at Harvard, won it a couple of times.

!-!

Second is something a little different -- North Shore Mass, my friend's house is a few blocks down. Big winter swell overtopping the sea wall and flooding the street and beyond.

First is more RI, 2004???

A few more odds and ends...

First is Rhode Island, note specks in water at peak.

Second is RI, thumping beachbreak, probably good for spongers?

Third is approach to linup (head high+) in RI. Wake on wave is from exiting surfer...thought it would dump on him? Hmmmm...

Three more...page five here we come!

 b+b

First is wider view - showing splitting peak - of earlier shot.

Second is empty overhead wave with foreground edited out.

Third is guy going straight...he hit the lip hard right after this shot...honest!

All Rhode Island.

All for now! Who else has wave pix from the East Coast...I know they're out there! Big, small, whatever. Maybe the Hawaiians are getting bored with these. New ones going up this winter when I get my new camera.

Mahalo,

Very nice jw! Please keep posting! L^]
I learned at 1st and 2nd beaches 35 years ago. It never looked like that in the summer, and wetsuits hadn't really broken the, East Coast Winter, barrier. The background still looks the same. I remember all those insane mansions in Newport...
Good times.

Glad you're enjoying, HaoleBoy!

You'll have to pardon the low resolution on mine. As I've said a couple of times, I have only had a point and shoot Canon A60, but plan to buy a new camera this winter to document the good stuff we get in the colder months. Looking at getting a FujiFilm S1000 (I believe) with 10X optical zoom, and 10 megapixels, which should do the trick for the near future.

I don't have pix from Newport, I'm always on the Narragansett side -- mostly PJ lighthouse area and Matunuck. It's a little closer to my home in Providence and, as I'm sure you know, offers multiple exposures (E- and S-facing spots) and all the points, reefs and beaches you could want within about 10 miles of each other.

EDIT: forgot to add Swell/Chang photo of Ruggles. Bud or anyone, let me know if I should remove due to copyright issues. It's Mike Reise, I think. I mistakenly put this photo on the next page. I think that is also Chang photo, and definitely is Reise. Big wave in Newport, Rhode Island!

I've been surfing year round here since 1995, when I got back from SF, where I learned to surf (paddle) beginning in 1991.

I've always admired you earlier era surfers in the area, before super stretchy, warm 5mm and 6mm wetsuits.

If you ever get back to the area, let me know and we'll go surf!

Aloha!

It looks like the winter is getting off to an epic start out there.

We had some good waves here over Thanksgiving weekend. Most of these are from New England:

http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/holid ... 84/photos/

!-!

Obviously not mine, but as I keep saying, I need a better camera...that's what Christmas is for!

Been away, and looking forward to checking the pix from the recent big swell out there. I'm afraid most of mine are tiny in comparison to what you guys get, but we make the most of 'em. I hope at least seeing some of the set ups and how good it can get when it all comes together is making it worth taking a look.

I'll be back when I get some better ones of my own.

Good waves to ya!

Waves here and better tomorrow. While I'm waiting to shred, I started a New England Snowboarders group on Yahoo.

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/ne ... owboarder/

It's only a few days old and only five members right now, but we'll see what happens. It was just sort of a spur of the moment thing and only took a few minutes to set up. Friend owns New England Longboarder:

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/ne ... ngboarder/

Anyone from New England/East Coast or anywhere else that wants to join please do! Lurk, post, read, learn, whatever.

Pix from Burton on my Web site:

http://home.comcast.net/~the_urchin/pho ... urton.html

Snowboard vids (and surf) on my YouTube page:

http://www.youtube.com/user/jaydubya333

Pls. loook for surf pix in next post, probably post em up early next week.

Hope you all are getting some good waves!

To all 808'ers:

Have a Happy New Year, from Rhode Island, USA!

I hope everyone gets tons of waves this year!!

Also, a friend sent me this:

The Traditional Hawaiian Prayer for Surf

Ina a 'ohe nalu, a laila aku i kai, penei e hea ai
(If there is no surf, invoke sea work, in the following manner) :

"Ku mai! Ku mai! Ka nalu nui mai Kahiki mai,
(Arise! Arise! You great surf from Kahiki,)

Alo po i pu! Ku mai ka pohuehue,
(The powerful curling waves! Arise with the pohuehue,)

Hu! Kai ko'o Loa.
(Well up! Long raging surf.)

Thanks to Tony P. for sending.

Best wishes for 2009,

Hello,

I hope the water has cleared up off Oahu. Sounds like it was a mess!

We had well overhead waves here in Rhode Island today, but up to 50kt. gusts, offshore.

Going out tomorrow morning, a little smaller but light wind. At this point I will take waist high and clean (which it should be with fairly long period), so much time at the desk lately!

In the meantime, more from my friends at Brickhouse. I wish I had the set up they have, and will provide more of my own pix tomorrow if possible and over the rest of winter. I guess it doesn't really matter who shoots them...but I want to build up my Web site more anyway (surf and snow).

So... Water shots from Rhode Island. Others from up North.

One more water shot, and then up north. More to come later today or over weekend.

Water shot is part of sequence with Greg Levy, other shot is on my "Happy New Year" post. He's a local ripper, as is his Dad, Dave. DL's company is Levy Surf Designs (LSD) -- "What are you on?"

He shapes some great boards -- http://www.levysurfdesigns.com

Hope to get one this winter -- 6'4" twinzer -- kind of long for a shortboard, I know, but I usually ride longboards, but have ridden and owned all sizes (have a 6'8" Xanadu, 18" wide, "mini-gun", for example). I'm only 5'9" and like 145lbs., so the board should float me well, you could say. Dave said people can't believe how fast they take off, it's like a skateboard. Sounds like just my style!

Shots from Brickhouse Surf Snow Skate, Gloucester, Mass. -- http://www.brickhouseboards.com

They deserve all the credit in the world.
