mall at sharks cove???

Postby sodisgusted » Tue Sep 28, 2004 10:19 am

WTFO?

they talking underground garage, and full on road widening. rumor control(squiddy's wife) has it that this project is a foloow up for the million dollar home owners at velzyland, to cate to the bluebloods.

is there a way we can do a cyber-petition going? enough hits on this board to get a lot of signatures.

c'mon gangy, here's where we can make a difference and keep the country country.

unless you LIKE a mall there, smack dab in the middle of the country.

me? i would rather surf crowded bowels than visit a mall on the north shore. just take a look at haleiwa, that's a preview of what's in store for sharks cove...

I can't wait for the Sam's Club to open across from Pipeline next to the school in 2010! :D

At least it would give people some jobs. Theres so much land and potential for the North Shore to become very un-country, wait till they build roads and develop the land above Waimea all the way back to Wahiawa. That land is empty and for sale, eventually it will happen.
Shit, I'd live up there.

Does seem like a real double edged sword being waved about. On the one hand, the "elite" are flexing some influence - We want what we want - NOW!... Then we got the kick back stylee of country... Well...mebbe not so kick back anymore. It is more of a circus for the winter prime months. Mom and Pop stores need income. Surfshops need customers. Vacation timeshare investments need visits. And there are a lotta non-surfers in the community that need jobs.

If a good job comes along and gets some crackhead off the shit, good thing. If it promotes rapid commercialism, and unchecked devrlopment - Bad sign.

I guess I just dont know. Mebbe a petition is a start of thoughtful work towards a good answer.

neva mind. forget about it.

i forgot this was the "conformist's millenium", and questioning authority is dead. i thought a smidgeon of the old hippie mindset was alive in most surfers, today. i was wrong, sorry, i didn't know.

it's just that developing the north shore is like developing yosemite or yellowstone, to me.

the ambience, solitude, should be preserved, as that WAS part of it's old attraction.

progress keeps marching along, fed by the almighty dollar and the love for instant gratification...

c'est la vie...

the north shore is as good as it gets. it has one road in and one road out. the man wants to own the north shore. no mana. the man is trying to justifiy more development. just think a mall more traffic. demands for more roads. hello new subdivision 10,000 new houses. every kook in hawaii on waves in the north shore. i hope to surf north shore for the rest of my life with a good felling. one road in one road out nuf. think.

Sorry Parko, dont burn the bitch down, people DIE from that shit. If the developement is not what the public wants - then the majority needs to find a voice.

Gimme a break "guest" - there are those that agree with your view , but realists that can see that change is a on going thing in our paradise- we gotta CONTROL it/

Peace/

Don't blame the people proposing to build a mall. Blame the person for selling the land in the 1st place. No Hawaiians, no Hawaii.

When noted big-wave surfer Ken Bradshaw wandered past Blanch Benson, Joeine Ho and Leslee Kanaiaupuni, he was asked outright: "Do you want the mall?"

Bradshaw paused and pondered.

"A mall, no," he finally said. "But a shopping area with a bank and a post office — hey, that would save me 10 miles a day."
