...the popular spots and points would get kinda crowded but I did most of my surfing at the crack of dawn so it wasn't an issue. There were many times I had a beach break peak to myself and guys just sread out down the beach.

.....I drove around in the "mystery van" and never really had to worry about my stuff gettin gripped. Good vibes aound. I hear though tha around Kirra and Snapper's area it can get bad.

im sure you can find the story online.
he was a wave hog and some younger guy knocked him out of him for dropping in on a little kid.
i think it was a one punch knock out.
he even published a book about it its called " surf rage ".

Well I dont care what he says, i have run into his like in the water and I think he deserved it, all those years of bad karma built up and slapped him silly. Just remember boys and girls there is always someone out there more bad and more tougher than you.

from an article I found online

I alos thought of something, the sign that has the rules should also have a part that is a reminder assault in the water is still assault and you run the risk of jail time, might cut down on some of the attacks??? Not like I see an attack everytime I go out but I figure about every ten crowded sessions I surf I see something happen, sometimes its just yelling but every once in a while fights have broken out in the water.[/img]

went to 0z in '78. went with the army on a field excercise.

spent four days downtime in the gold coast. being of asian/pacific islander descent, i wasn't even given the time of day, if i asked.

they hate asians and maori's, not to mention aborigines in oz. at least in 1978. if you was american, especially black, they'ld love you. if you was asian or polynesian, better to stay home.

i think oz sucked. i would ask people about the surf and get this extremely unwelcomed feeling... this was in 1978...

oz- isolationists...

one thing i'm loving is less and less ozzies visit hawaii everyyear. i think it has to do with the ian cairns thingy from the seventies. that has never healed. imagine an ozzite talking shit about hawaiians, then having to surf here after saying all that shit? ian cairns, pete townsend, and mike tomson were and still are pieces of shit. those fuckers totally FUCKED SURFING UP.

nowadays, it's the califriscan "hollywood" mentality that's taken over. soul surfing isn't "hip" anymore. it's allll for show....

oh, and that shit abou t

i figured i'ld continue on the subject raher than leave ya'alls hanging.

by now, if you'e reading this far, you've learned to deal with my negativity. good for you. you see, i had a tai chi grandmaster tell me that if you feel fast, then slow down. if you feel good, then start feeling bad. this is the only way to balance.

one cannot appreciate peace, unless he has seen war. one cannot appreciate solitude, unless he has seen chaos...

this thread was originally about ozfest, supposedly a feelgood thread on the onset. then we saw the "sign". then we saw nat young.

fock, people. is anyone awake out there? we go one with our lives like everything is just fine, and it ain't. has anyone been to a baseball field and seen signs on baseball etiquette? what about football? soccer? sk8ng? something is VERY FOCKING WRONG in surfing today, and noone is taking charge. no one is leading, nor speaking out. sure, nat young wrote a book (i didn't read it.) but that's just a little scratch on the surface.

i wanna see the age old beef revived, that of the first ever surf-commercialists, the "bronzed assholes" (aussies), against the REST of the surfing community back then, the SOULRIDERS.

you people shoulda been there, it was crazy. the north shore in the early 70's, late 60's was paradise on earth. i know, i was there. i was 13 in 1970, and i saw the place when there were quonset huts instead of 4 story beach mANSIONS. yes, i wanna see a return to those times, fuck progress.

where is gerry lopez? reno? brewer? chapman? sam hawk? kanaiapuni? hakman? wot? did these guys just disappear off the face of the earth? i guess none of 'em give a shit since they got theirs, right. i guess the rest of us normal folk gotta just bow down and eat shit.

congrats, mr cairns, mr townsend. bullshit did win out after all...
ride the tiger...

Lopez is living in Oregon. He shapes boards. He lives 4 hours away from the coast. KGMB had an interview with him about a month ago. He has no desire to come back to Hawaii. His wife, son and himself love snowboarding. When the surf is up, he travels to the Oregon coast. He stated that he hopes to live in Oregon the rest of his life.

How about the signs at beach parks that state: no driving on beach, no alocohol bottles/cans, no camping...

How about Dog Parks ever read those signs.

My tai chi master told me to do a headstand when in a bad mood. I think  you should try one too.
